ALIEN ZOOLOGY

The Chephalopagi or just “Paggy” is mainly an insectivore, but also predates on small burrowing creatures to fill out its diet. When the Chephalopagi locates a burrow, it reaches down with its front appendage and pulls out whatever it can find. The large ears fan out on either side of the head to trap any prey that might try to escape past the creature's head at the opening of the burrow. The claws on the tips of the ears weigh them down and dig into the ground as they expand to form a very effective trap. In the case where prey escapes out an auxiliary exit tunnel, or if the Cephalopagi finds itself under attack from a larger predator, its hooves allow it a quick getaway. The appendage on its face can inflate slightly to give the appearance of a giant maggot, acting as a lure.
